Federal-Provincial-Territorial Agriculture Minister’s Meeting in Halifax

Pulse Canada joined agricultural leaders, industry stakeholders, parliamentarians, and federal, provincial, and territorial Ministers in Halifax for the meetings around the 2026 Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Agriculture Ministers Meeting, which included a Policy Summit hosted by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.

This year's Summit, themed "Building Canada's Agricultural Growth Engine: Policy Priorities for the Next Policy Framework," served as a national forum for dialogue on the policy measures needed to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term resilience of Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. Discussions centred on innovation, productivity, value-added agriculture, economic growth, and the policy tools required to keep Canadian farmers globally competitive.

A recurring theme was ensuring the next policy framework delivers real, measurable outcomes for producers while supporting food security goals.

Pulse Canada also participated in an FPT Roundtable, where Ministers and senior officials worked with industry to align on shared priorities for the Next Agricultural Policy Framework and identify areas for collaboration as the sector navigates economic uncertainty and rising productivity and sustainability demands.

For Pulse Canada, the meeting also provided a valuable opportunity to sit down directly with Ministers and their staff to discuss priorities for the next policy framework, as well as provide updates on ongoing files of interest to the pulse industry. Pulse Canada will continue engaging in the process as these priorities move from dialogue toward the next policy framework's design and delivery.

At the close of the FPT Roundtable, Ministers formally issued the Halifax Statement, setting out the shared vision and priorities that will guide the Next Policy Framework (2028–2033).
